Surachai Supattapone is Professor of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine, Dartmouth College, where he leads an active research laboratory in Vail Building Room 311, Hanover, NH. His work bridges molecular biochemistry and medical neuroscience with institutional affiliation through the Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology.
Research focuses on:
- Molecular mechanisms of prion propagation in neurodegenerative diseases
- Infectious mammalian prion characterization
- CRISPR-based genetic screening in mammalian cell systems
- Protein misfolding dynamics in spongiform encephalopathies
- Genetic pathways in fundamental cellular processes using iPSC models
Current research employs whole-genome CRISPR libraries to investigate cellular mechanisms while generating infectious prions for neuropathology studies, including electron microscopy analysis and induced pluripotent stem cell models. Recent publications reveal critical insights into genetic prion disease mechanisms and therapeutic challenges using advanced mouse models.
The laboratory maintains active collaborations with Case Western University and Rocky Mountain Laboratories, producing significant neuropathology imaging including brain section vacuolation analysis and embryoid body models. Ongoing work examines prion infectivity mechanisms and CRISPR-based cellular pathway mapping in mammalian systems.
