Raymond Bujdoso is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences and the Department of Veterinary Medicine. He leads an internationally recognized research group focused on prion diseases, aiming to improve human and animal health through studies on protein misfolding and neurotoxicity.
- Education
- BSc in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry and Physiology), University of Leicester
- PhD in Pathology, University of Cambridge
Dr. Bujdoso’s research explores the molecular pathology of prion diseases, including Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), and Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). His team developed a groundbreaking Drosophila model for mammalian prion propagation, enabling faster detection of prion infectivity compared to traditional mammalian bioassays.
Their work addresses critical gaps in understanding prion transmission mechanisms, zoonotic potential, and therapeutic interventions such as RNAi-based genetic modifiers and chemical treatments. This research has broad implications for neurodegenerative diseases and public health.
Dr. Bujdoso holds significant administrative roles, including Theme Leader for the Cambridge BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) and Dean of Students at Wolfson College. He also contributes to graduate education and enterprise initiatives within the Department of Veterinary Medicine.
