Supriya Baily

Dr. Supriya Baily is a Professor at George Mason University's College of Education and Human Development, serving as Associate Director for the Center for International Education. Her research focuses on gender, education, and empowerment, particularly in India, examining how nonformal education impacts women and communities. She holds a PhD in International Education from George Mason University (2008) and has extensive experience working with marginalized groups worldwide.

Her academic roles include Treasurer of the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) and board member of Global Teacher Education, Inc. She has authored/co-edited books including Internationalizing Teacher Education in the US (2012) and Educating Adolescent Girls Around the Globe (2015), with over 20 peer-reviewed publications. Her work emphasizes grassroots transformation, having founded CRISIS in India to mentor youth and collaborated with organizations like The Times of India and microcredit initiatives.

Research interests span gender dynamics in education, policy analysis, and global development. She teaches courses on qualitative research, social justice, and international education, integrating action research methodologies. Awards include grants from IREX and Mason’s Global Studies Office for projects addressing educational equity and teacher training.

Dr. Baily’s advisory roles include serving on AERA’s Peace Education SIG and CIES’ Gender Committee. She has presented at major conferences (CIES, AERA) and consults for India’s Teachers Foundation to improve pedagogical practices. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical solutions for systemic inequities in education.
