Dr. Suparna De is a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Surrey, affiliated with the Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI (PAI) and the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering. She holds an honorary Senior Research Fellow position at UCL’s Social Research Institute and serves as a visiting lecturer at the CITIC Research Center in Granada, Spain. Her expertise spans machine learning, Semantic Web technologies, and IoT data analytics with a focus on longitudinal data analysis and privacy-preserving models.
Dr. De earned her Ph.D., MSc (Distinction), and B.Sc. (Honours), and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her research integrates natural language processing (NLP) with longitudinal social science datasets, semantic sensor modeling, and adaptive privacy frameworks for online platforms. She leads projects like METACURATE-ML, advancing metadata extraction from non-machine-actionable documents.
Teaching responsibilities include leading the Parallel Computing module and co-convening the Natural Language Processing course. She supervises postdoctoral researchers and PhD candidates in areas such as NLP for longitudinal datasets and distributed intelligence systems. Her work has been featured in top conferences like ACM SIGIR and the Web Conference.
Notable achievements include contributions to computational social science and IoT analytics, with a focus on ethical data practices. She has mentored researchers including Dr. Chandresh Pravin (NLP/LLMs) and Dr. Justina Li (Longitudinal NLP), and has collaborated on smart city projects with universities in China and Spain.
