Sunniva Sandbukt

Sunniva Sandbukt serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Digital Design at IT University of Copenhagen, where she is affiliated with the ETHOS Lab. Her research examines digital technologies through ethnographic and qualitative methods, focusing on digital money infrastructure, platform economies, and AI implementation in societal contexts across Denmark and Indonesia.

Her research interests center on Digital money, Automation and AI, Ghost work and on-demand labour, Platform Economies, and Science and Technology Studies. She investigates how digital systems reshape social practices through fieldwork in financial technology adoption, workplace AI integration, and emergency communication systems, emphasizing political economy and user perspectives in digitalisation processes.

Analysis of her 2022-2024 publications reveals three interconnected research streams: digital payment infrastructures in Indonesian contexts (particularly Yogyakarta), AI integration challenges in Danish knowledge work and business environments, and trust dynamics in public emergency communication systems. Her work consistently bridges Science and Technology Studies theory with practical design implications, highlighting how technological interfaces mediate social relations and power structures.

Dr. Sandbukt has secured multiple competitive research grants including the Eliteforsk Travel Grant (2020-2022) on technology inclusion, AI Denmark project (2020-2022) on business AI implementation funded by Industriens Fond, and the ongoing DIGeMERGE project (2022-2025) on digital emergency communication funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. She also co-led the Top-Up with Driver project (2017-2020) examining digital money in Yogyakarta.

As a core member of the ETHOS Lab, she contributes to research examining digital technologies' social and cultural dimensions through empirical fieldwork. Her collaborative network spans Denmark, Norway, and Indonesia, with active partnerships in both academic and industry contexts focused on responsible technology development.
