Sunil Atreya

Sunil Atreya is an Associate Professor and College Chair at the College of Hospitality Management, Johnson & Wales University (JWU), where he has been since 1994. He holds a B.S. in General Science from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, India, and an M.S. in Food Nutrition & Institutional Administration with a focus on Hotel Management from Oklahoma State University.

Before academia, Atreya held management roles in the hotel industry with the Welcome Group Chain in India and Marriott/Holiday Inn in the U.S. His career spans over 30 years, blending industry experience with teaching. He emphasizes experiential learning, advising students to leverage internships, projects, and leadership opportunities. His teaching philosophy centers on igniting student understanding, as seen in his quote: 'the thrill that never dies' when students grasp concepts.

Atreya is affiliated with organizations like ICHRIE and holds the CHE certification. He advocates for holistic student development, urging freshmen to build their 'personal brand' through campus resources. As Chair, he leads the college’s vision to prepare students for careers in hospitality, emphasizing growth and real-world application.
