Sungha Yun is an Assistant Professor of Religion and Asian Studies at St. Olaf College, where she has taught since Fall 2021. She specializes in Korean Buddhism, gender studies, East Asian new religious movements, and Yogācāra philosophy.
- Education: M.A. in Asian Studies (University of California, Berkeley, 2014), Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies (University of California, Los Angeles, 2021)
Her current work focuses on the formation of Won Buddhism, examining intersections between Korean spirituality, modernity, and East Asian Buddhist practices. Dr. Yun, ordained as a Won Buddhist priest in 2007, has received prestigious recognition including the ACLS/Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Fellowship. She offers courses on Buddhism, Asian religions, and new religious movements at St. Olaf, with research emphasizing historical and philosophical dimensions of Buddhist traditions.
