Dr. Sung Jae Lee is a Research Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine and the Fielding School of Public Health. He serves in the Departments of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and Epidemiology, and directs research and evaluation at the Nathanson Family Resilience Center, Division of Population Behavioral Health. He also leads the Methods Core for the Center for HIV Identification Prevention and Treatment Services (CHIPTS) and is the UCLA site PI for the UCGHI GloCal Fellowship Training Program.
Dr. Lee’s research focuses on addressing health disparities in HIV prevention and care for vulnerable populations, utilizing conjoint analysis to model preferences for biomedical and behavioral interventions (e.g., HIV vaccines, pre-exposure prophylaxis, dual testing for syphilis/HIV, long-acting injectables). His work spans community engagement, behavioral interventions, and epidemiological studies in regions like the US, Thailand, and Myanmar.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in STI screening optimization, PrEP adoption, ART coverage, and social determinants of HIV risk. He mentors masters and doctoral students in epidemiology, emphasizing methodological rigor and real-world application of research findings.
