Sung-Deuk Oak is an Associate Professor of Korean Christianity at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), affiliated with the Center for Korean Studies within the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures. He joined UCLA in 2005 as an Adjunct Professor, transitioned to Assistant Professor in 2007, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2011.

His research focuses on the history of Korean Christianity, particularly Korean Protestantism and its global connections. During his tenure at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg (2012), he studied interactions between Christianity and Korean religions (1875–1915).
