His research focuses on epigenetic regulation through X-chromosome inactivation (XCI), using mouse models to study mechanisms like Xist RNA, chromatin modifications, and Polycomb group proteins. The lab investigates how long non-coding RNAs and novel methyltransferases contribute to transcriptional memory and gene silencing.
Recent publications highlight work on KDM5C demethylase in XCI, quiescence in embryonic stem cells, and Xist RNA dynamics in early development. Key findings include the role of GSK3 inhibitors in XIST loss and the PRC2-independent function of EZH2 in rRNA methylation.
Scientific accolades include the NIH Director's New Innovator Award, Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholar, and multiple University of Michigan collaborative grants. His lab welcomes students and researchers interested in epigenetic mechanisms in development and disease.
