S. Sundar Kumar Iyer is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His research focuses on organic solar cells, photovoltaic systems, printable electronics, and VLSI technology.
Dr. Iyer earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1998, following an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras in 1993 and a B.Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT Madras in 1990.
His research interests span several key areas in modern electronics and renewable energy. Dr. Iyer has made significant contributions to the field of organic photovoltaics, particularly in understanding the fundamental mechanisms of organic solar cells, improving their efficiency through novel processing techniques, and developing printable electronics solutions. His earlier work also includes important contributions to VLSI technology and semiconductor device fabrication.
Dr. Iyer has received numerous awards including the Distinguished Teacher Award from IIT Kanpur in 2010, a team award for eFUSE Development at IBM Corp. in 2004, the Fourth Plateau Invention Achievement Award at IBM Corp. in 2002, and the Moolgaonkar Award from J.N. Tata Foundation in 1993. He was also a University of California Regents Fellow during the 1992-93 academic year.
As a faculty member at IIT Kanpur, Dr. Iyer has contributed significantly to both research and teaching in the field of electrical engineering, with a particular focus on renewable energy technologies and semiconductor devices.
