Sunao Sugiyama is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, School of Arts & Sciences, University of Pennsylvania since September 1, 2023. He works primarily on weak lensing cosmology with Bhuvnesh Jain and contributes to the HSC weak lensing working group and PFS projects.
Education:
- PhD in Physics, University of Tokyo (2023)
- Master's Degree, University of Tokyo
- Bachelor's Degree, University of Tokyo
Sugiyama specializes in observational cosmology using gravitational lensing phenomena. His research encompasses weak lensing cosmology and microlensing applications, with strong emphasis on developing numerical and statistical methodologies for more efficient cosmological data analysis. His methodological innovations support more precise measurements of cosmological parameters through large-scale structure observations.
Research Projects:
- fastlens: FFT-based evaluation of finite source effects in microlensing that reduces computational complexity
- Dark Emulator: Part of the Dark Quest project for emulating cosmological dark matter halo statistics
- HSC Cosmology: Working with Hyper Suprime-Cam Subaru Strategic Program data
Professional Affiliations:
- University of Pennsylvania, Department of Physics and Astronomy
- HSC weak lensing working group
- PFS (Prime Focus Spectrograph)
- Astronomical Society of Japan (AJS)
- Japanese Physical Society (JPS)
- Formerly associated with Kavli IPMU under Masahiro Takada's supervision
