Sumrin Kalia

Dr. Sumrin Kalia is a Lecturer and Researcher at the Department of Management within the School of Business and Economics at Freie Universität Berlin. Her work bridges organizational dynamics with socio-political contexts, focusing on civil society and political culture through comparative, socio-historical frameworks.

Her research employs ethnographic insights and qualitative data to analyze how civil society organizations interact with political and economic institutions. She integrates organizational theories with Area Studies, political sociology, and institutional theory to explore inclusive governance and cohesion in diverse socio-political environments.

Sumrin’s publications appear in journals such as the International Journal of Public Administration, Religion, State & Society, and South Asia Chronicle. She is currently developing a book project on religious organizations and populism in Pakistan, alongside a cross-national comparative study on inclusive civil society orientations.
