Sumeet Mahajan

Prof. Sumeet Mahajan is a Professor in Molecular Biophotonics & Imaging at the University of Southampton with a joint appointment in the Institute for Life Sciences. His research focuses on developing novel spectroscopy and imaging techniques for biomedical diagnostics, including Raman spectroscopy and label-free imaging. He leads interdisciplinary projects in neurodegenerative disease detection, anti-microbial resistance, and environmental health, with significant funding from EPSRC, ERC, and industry partners.

Education: MSc, MTech (IIT Kanpur), PhD (University of Southampton). Postdoctoral research at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. Awards include ERC Starting Grant (2015) and EPSRC Fellowship (2010). Active in translational research and commercialization, collaborating globally with institutions and companies like AstraZeneca.

Research interests: Neuro-diagnostics, early dementia detection, biomedical imaging, and spectroscopic innovations. Supervises PhD students and leads major grants including the £6.2M EPSRC Transformative Healthcare 2050 program.
