Sumeda Nandadasa

Sumeda Nandadasa is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UMass Chan Medical School. His laboratory investigates the role of ADAMTS metalloproteinases in embryonic development and ciliopathies - developmental disorders caused by defective primary cilia formation.

Research focuses on:

• Cellular and molecular mechanisms of metalloproteinase regulation of ciliogenesis
• Identification of novel extracellular matrix substrates involved in disease pathogenesis
• Mouse models of human ciliopathies

His work has been recognized with the Mark Lauer Pediatric Research Grant Award and Excellence in Postdoctoral Research Award. Current research employs super-resolution microscopy, CRISPR gene editing, organoid disease modeling, and high-resolution proteomics to study ciliopathy mechanisms in kidney development, neural tube formation, and vasculogenesis.
