Suki Ali is Professor in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where she has established herself as a leading scholar in intersectional approaches to race, gender, and education. Previously, she taught at Goldsmiths College, the Institute of Education, and the University of Greenwich, bringing diverse institutional perspectives to her current role at LSE.
Her research expertise centers on feminist postcolonial theory, research methodologies, visual culture, and processes of identification and embodiment. She explores the complex interplay between gender, sexualities, race and class, with particular focus on how these dynamics manifest in education and family life. Her current research examines racialization processes with specific attention to family life, identification, and postcoloniality, as well as knowledge politics and practices.
Professor Ali's scholarly output reveals a consistent trajectory of engagement with critical issues in social theory. Her recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate an evolving focus on decolonial educational futures, mixed-race thought, and the student voice in higher education, while maintaining her foundational commitment to intersectional analysis. At LSE, Professor Ali teaches courses on Power, Inequality, and Difference: Contemporary Themes in Sociology and Gendering, Identities, Difference. She is part of the Knowledge, Culture and Technology research cluster, collaborating with colleagues on interdisciplinary projects that bridge theoretical and empirical work in social sciences.
