Suhanthie Motha is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Washington, part of the College of Arts & Sciences. Her research focuses on race and empire in English language teaching, critical applied linguistics, linguistic minority identity, and anticolonial epistemologies. She holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto (1990), an M.A. (1995), and a Ph.D. (2004) from the University of Maryland.

Her work bridges critical race theory and applied linguistics, examining how race and empire shape global English language pedagogy. She has received notable awards, including the AESA Critic’s Choice Book Award and CIES Globalization and Education SIG Book Award (both 2015).
She teaches courses on language pedagogy and critical theory, and her affiliations include roles in the Department of English and interdisciplinary research groups. Her office is located in PDL A-413, with office hours on Mondays 2:00–4:00 PM.
