Dr. Sue Sorensen is an Associate Professor of English at Canadian Mennonite University (CMU), where she has taught since 2005. Her work bridges literary analysis, film studies, and religious themes, particularly focusing on the portrayal of Christian ministry in media. She is the author of The Collar (2014), which examines clergy representation in literature and film, and A Large Harmonium (2009), a novel. She co-edited West of Eden: Essays on Canadian Prairie Literature (2011) and has published poetry, including works set to music by the Winnipeg choir Renaissance Voices.
Sorensen emphasizes collaborative scholarship and the ‘culture of kindness’ at CMU. Her research engages with themes of pastoral identity, cultural critique, and the intersection of faith and art. She is an active member of Winnipeg’s First Lutheran Church and contributes to both academic and lay audiences through her accessible writing style. Recent projects include creative collaborations with musicians and community-focused literary initiatives.
Her academic contributions span biblical studies, Anabaptist traditions, and interdisciplinary approaches to literature. Sorensen advocates for scholarship that transcends traditional hierarchies, fostering peer-driven intellectual exchange with students and colleagues alike.
