Sue Platt is a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design at the Manchester School of Art, Manchester Metropolitan University. She is also a practicing artist, illustrator, and occasional writer, known for her autobiographical narratives and exploration of cinematic impacts on female perspectives. Her work frequently incorporates text and image appropriation, often featuring self-representation and cathartic themes.
Platt’s research focuses on collaborative projects such as The Society of The Spectacles, examining eyewear’s role in art and culture. Key exhibitions include Strelnikov's Glasses and Other Stories (2017) and UDKANT: on the Margins (2012). She has contributed to artist books like Stilled Lives (2009) and OWT 13: Remix (2014). Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally, with pieces held in public collections.
Platt’s teaching spans graphic design and artist-led practices, drawing from her background in gallery education and editorial work with Manchester’s City Life magazine. She also collaborates with institutions like the Manchester Modernist Society, exemplified by the Campus project (2012). Her artistic interests extend to birdwatching, influencing her watercolor studies of species like Chiffchaffs.
