Sue Peerson

Sue Peerson is a Senior Continuing Lecturer in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at UC San Diego, with over 30 years of experience in urban planning and design. Her work bridges planning, law, urban design, and landscape architecture, focusing on integrating physical plans within political, social, and environmental contexts. She teaches courses on urban design practicum, site analysis, placemaking, and visual communication, emphasizing practical engagement with real-world clients and community values.

Education:

• M.L.A. in Landscape Architecture with concentration in Urban Design, University of Pennsylvania, Stuart Weitzman School of Design
• Paralegal Certificate, University of San Diego
• B.S. in City and Regional Planning, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

Her research centers on reimagining San Diego alleys as shared public spaces to address urban challenges, promoting social inclusivity, ecological benefits, and public health improvements. She has taught international urban design courses in Amsterdam and Weimar, and her pedagogy incorporates technology and interactive software to enhance learning.
