Sue Meeke-Smith is a Lecturer in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at Wrexham University, where she supports trainee teachers through their QTS programs. Previously, she taught for 15 years across Shropshire and Gwynedd primary schools, specializing in Reception classes (ages 4-5).
Her academic credentials include a Master of Education in Society from the University of Chester (2020), which investigated economic disparities in educational inequality with focus on the 'word gap' for children entering school. She is currently pursuing doctoral research examining lived experiences of supporting students in widening participation contexts within teacher education across England and Wales.
Sue's research centers on equity-driven educational practices, emphasizing early literacy development through Systematic Synthetic Phonics and cross-curricular music integration. Her work actively addresses inclusive strategies for disadvantaged learners and systemic barriers in teacher training, drawing from both classroom experience and ongoing doctoral inquiry into contemporary educational challenges in the UK.
As an educator, she mentors trainee teachers by bridging theoretical knowledge with practical classroom insights, particularly in Early Years pedagogy. Her commitment extends to enhancing institutional support systems for students from non-traditional backgrounds pursuing teaching careers.
