معرفی
Professor Sue Gray is a leading academic in Dynamical Meteorology at the University of Reading's Department of Meteorology. Her research focuses on the dynamics and predictability of weather systems, particularly sting jets in extratropical cyclones, and the impacts of climate change on extreme weather events. She holds the role of Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for research (Environment), overseeing environmental research strategy.
- Education: Extensive academic background in meteorology and atmospheric sciences.
- Affiliations: Principal investigator in major NERC-funded projects including Diabatic influences on current and future hazardous Mediterranean cyclones and CLOUDY TIME.
Her work integrates advanced modeling tools like the Met Office's MONSooN and ARCHER supercomputers to improve forecast accuracy. Key contributions include the development of a sting-jet diagnostic tool for operational forecasting and studies on Mediterranean cyclones' tropical-like characteristics. She collaborates closely with the Met Office, industry, and international researchers to address climate resilience challenges.
Teaching and mentorship are core to her career, running the Mesoscale Group and supervising numerous postdocs and PhD students. Notable students include Ambrogio Volonte (Mediterranean cyclones), Ben Harvey (CLOUDY TIME project), and Jake Bland (convective processes).
