Sue Ferguson is an Honorary Associate Lecturer at the School of Psychological Sciences, Macquarie University. Her research focuses on positive aging, predictors of well-being in older adults, and psychological adaptation to chronic illness and stress. She is a Registered Psychologist with specialist endorsement in Health Psychology and holds a PhD in Positive Aging from Macquarie University (2017).
Teaching roles include undergraduate developmental psychology, health psychology, and clinical psychology at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has won teaching awards, including the Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning (2017).
Research interests include optimism, social support, self-compassion, and proactive coping in older adults. She collaborates with organizations like Uniting and National Seniors, and writes monthly columns for COTA NSW and Sydney Observer on aging-related topics. Professional memberships include the Australian Psychological Society and International Positive Psychology Association.
Her work emphasizes translating psychological knowledge into public engagement, with a focus on midlife and older adulthood well-being. She has served on university committees, including the Human Ethics Committee and Teaching & Learning Committee.
