Dr. Sue Bailey is a Senior Lecturer in the Social Work program at Edith Cowan University's School of Arts and Humanities. Her research integrates ecological systems theory with human well-being, focusing on climate change, ecosystem degradation, and ecological grief. She teaches courses including SWK4121: Activism and Social Change and SWK3112: Advanced Interpersonal Skills.
Education: PhD in Social Work (UWA, 2011) and Bachelor of Social Work (UWA, 2002). Awards include the AASW Finalist Agent of Change Award (2014) and multiple teaching fellowships. Her research has addressed topics like maternal grief, eco-social work practices, and climate justice.
Current grants include a $892,362 Department of Fire and Emergency Services project on disaster resilience and a $362,071 Lotterywest grant for climate justice tools. She supervises PhD research on climate-just transformations in community services and previously co-supervised an art therapy study with marginalized communities.
Key research themes include ecological grief frameworks, community garden-based interventions, and mental health strategies for climate-affected populations. She collaborates internationally on sustainability education models and youth climate activism.
