Associate Professor Naomi Godden is a Vice-Chancellor's Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University's School of Arts and Humanities, holding an Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA). She serves as Associate Director of ECU's Strategic Research Centre for People, Place and Planet and maintains strong connections with Monash University where she was previously an Adjunct Research Fellow (2017-2022).
Her educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy (2015), Honours Degree of Bachelor of Social Work (2008), and Bachelor of Arts (2008), all from Monash University. Her academic journey reflects her commitment to social justice and community development.
Godden's research centers on Feminist Participatory Action Research methodology, feminist and decolonial climate justice, rural social justice, and gender justice. As a social worker and activist from Margaret River on Wardandi Boodja in Western Australia, Godden integrates her community development experience with her academic work. Her research approach emphasizes collective care, relational processes, and centering Indigenous knowledge in climate justice work, reflecting her 20 years of experience across Australia and internationally in countries including Peru, Timor-Leste, Papua New Guinea, and Solomon Islands.
