Dr. Sudeshna Basu-Gupta is a Senior Research Associate and Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of Earth Sciences at University College London (UCL). Her research focuses on gas shale characterization, noble gas geochemistry, and isotopic analysis of carbon, nitrogen, and noble gases to predict free gas retention in shales. She leads a Shell-funded project investigating European and American shale gas potential through isotopic and elemental composition analysis. Additionally, she explores paleo-depositional conditions (redox, productivity, tectonics) and their impact on gas generation using major/minor/trace element analyses.
- Teaching Role: GEOL0034 Geology for Global Managers and Engineers in the MSc in Global Management of Natural Resources program.
- Grants: Funded by Shell, Department of Science and Technology (India), NERC, and Leverhulme Trust for past projects on carbonatites, basalts, diamonds, and oceanic sediments.
Her research integrates noble gas isotopes and elemental geochemistry to unravel geological processes across diverse sample types, including carbonatites and oceanic sediments.
