Subhasish Chakraborty

Dr. Subhasish Chakraborty is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the University of Manchester in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, part of the Materials, Devices and Systems Research Division. He is affiliated with the Photon Science Institute and leads research in terahertz quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), graphene-based photonics, and aperiodic lattice engineering. His work focuses on integrating terahertz opto-plasmonic devices with quantum technologies for applications in high-speed communication, imaging, and quantum networks.

Research Interests: Dr. Chakraborty pioneers tunable THz-over-Fibre systems, graphene-controlled QCLs, and aperiodic lattice nanophotonics. His lab specializes in cryogenic testing of quantum nanodevices and has achieved 'World First' milestones, including the first integrated tunable graphene laser (Science, 2016) and electronically tunable THz QCL PICs.

Grants & Leadership: As sole-PI, he secured EPSRC grants (EP/G064504/1 and follow-ons) and an HMGCC international grant. He supervises a PDRA and PhD students, including Md. Khairuzzaman whose work advanced THz-over-Fibre technology.

Labs & Collaborations: His lab hosts state-of-the-art cryogenic probe systems for THz device testing. Collaborations include Prof. Kostya Novoselov (National Graphene Institute) and the Henry Royce Institute's 'Atoms to Devices' program.
