Subhash Thota

Dr. Subhash Thota is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and holds a Visiting Professor position at CNRS Laboratory CRISMAT & ENSICAEN University of Caen Normandy, France. His research focuses on challenging experimental observations in Magnetism, Charge-transport, Spincaloritronics and Magneto-dielectrics.

Dr. Thota earned his Ph.D. from the Materials Science Programme of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur in 2009, followed by a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at CNRS Laboratory CRISMAT in Caen, France. His research interests span Condensed Matter Physics, Magnetism, Spintronics, and Materials Science, with particular emphasis on frustrated magnetic systems and quantum phase transitions. His work explores complex phenomena including spin-glass behavior, field-induced transitions, and magnetic ordering in various materials systems.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on frustrated magnetic systems, particularly examining honeycomb lattices, Kagome structures, and triangular antiferromagnets. His research frequently employs neutron diffraction, broadband dielectric spectroscopy, and first-principles calculations to investigate magnetic exchange interactions, phonon dynamics, and quantum critical phenomena. Key themes include the study of triple points in phase diagrams, spin-reorientation transitions, and the interplay between lattice, spin, and orbital degrees of freedom.

Dr. Thota has received significant research funding including a DST SERB Core Research Grant (2023, 65 Lakhs) for studying frustrated pyrochlore nanostructures, a DAE-BRNS Young Scientist Research Award (2015, 20 Lakhs), a DST-SERB Young Scientist Scheme (2015, 25 Lakhs), and a Board of Research in Fusion Science & Technology Grant (2011-2016, 34 Lakhs).

He has advised numerous students whose names frequently appear as first authors on his publications, including Sayandeep Ghosh, Prativa Pramanik, Sobhit Singh, Harshita Singh, Suchit Kumar Jena, Mouli Roy-Chowdhury, Shaona Das, Ravi Kiran Dokala, and Maruthi R. His research has resulted in extensive publications in high-impact journals including Physical Review B, Physical Review Materials, and Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter.

Dr. Thota has delivered numerous invited talks at international conferences including the International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICONN 2023), Indo-French Laboratory for Solid State Chemistry workshops, and various Materials Research Society events. He has also contributed a book chapter titled 'Nature of Magnetic Ordering in Cobalt-Based Spinels' in 'Magnetic Spinels-Synthesis, Properties and Applications' published by Intech Publishers.
