معرفی
Prof. Ramesh Chandra Nath is Professor of Physics at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram, where he has served since 2009 – progressing from Assistant Professor (2009-2015) to Associate Professor (2015-2019) and current Professor (2020-present). His research spans experimental condensed matter physics with emphasis on quantum magnetic phenomena.
- Ph.D (Physics), Indian Institute of Technology Bombay
- MSc (Physics), Utkal University, Orissa
- BSc (Physics), MPC College, Baripada, Orissa
His research focuses on frustrated quantum magnets and strongly correlated electron systems, specializing in material synthesis under extreme conditions (high/low temperatures, high magnetic fields, high pressure). The group investigates unconventional superconductivity, spin-liquid states, and magnetization plateaus in transition metal/rare-earth compounds using NMR, specific heat, and magnetization techniques. Recent work reveals novel quantum phases in geometrically frustrated lattices (kagome, triangular, hyperkagome) with implications for quantum computing.
Analysis of 15 recent publications (2023-2025) shows dominant research themes: quantum spin liquids (40% of publications), triangular/kagome lattice antiferromagnets (35%), and magnetocaloric effects (25%). Key experimental signatures include Bose-Einstein condensation of triplons, cluster-glass behavior, and field-induced phase transitions – primarily studied through low-temperature NMR and magnetometry.
- Max-Planck Fellow
- DST-MPG Fellow (2011-2014)
Prof. Nath actively mentors 12 students across PhD (7), Integrated PhD (2), and project (3) programs while securing international collaborations with Max Planck Institutes (Dresden), Ames Laboratory (USA), and University of Augsburg. His group operates specialized facilities for crystal growth and quantum magnetism characterization under extreme conditions, with recent projects focusing on rare-earth vanadates and cobalt-based metal-organic frameworks.
The Ramesh Nath Research Group maintains active experimental programs in quantum magnetism, utilizing high-field magnetometry, low-temperature NMR, and crystal growth facilities to explore emergent phenomena in frustrated spin systems. Current projects include thin-film spin-liquid materials and spin-orbit coupled honeycomb magnets.
