Su Shin

Dr. Su Shin is an Associate Professor in Family & Consumer Studies at the University of Utah. She holds a PhD in Human Sciences from The Ohio State University (2016) and degrees from Seoul National University.

Her research examines economic and cognitive aspects of aging:

• Climate impacts on elderly cognition
• Financial decision-making in later life
• Health disparities across racial/ethnic groups
• Disaster resilience in aging populations

Recent work analyzes heat stress effects on cognitive function and disaster-related health behaviors during COVID-19. Methodological strengths include longitudinal data analysis and behavioral economics approaches.

Honors include:

• Richard L.D. Morse Award (2018)
• Robert O. Herrmann Dissertation Award (2017)

Dr. Shin teaches graduate courses in financial planning and family economics and serves on American Council for Consumer Interest committees.
