Stéphane PFENDLER is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Bourgogne Franche-Comté's UMR 6249 Chrono-environment laboratory in Montbéliard, France. His work focuses on microbiology of karstic environments, phytoremediation strategies for contaminated sites, and microbial interactions in polluted soils. He completed his PhD at Chrono-environment on karstic microbiology and now investigates plant-microbe synergies in trace element remediation.
Research Interests:
- Microbial ecology in contaminated environments
- Phytoremediation of trace elements
- Biofilm formation in show caves
- Karst system microbiology
- UV-C treatment applications
Key Research Trends: His publications emphasize microbial community dynamics in polluted soils, bioremediation efficacy of poplar and birch species, and microbial threats to cultural heritage sites like the Saint Marcel Cave. Recent work explores UV-C treatments for biofilm control and long-term phytomanagement outcomes.
Collaborations: Works with multidisciplinary teams including ecologists, speleologists, and bioengineers through projects like ECOPOLIS and BIOSYSMO. Active in international conferences such as the International Conference of the Biochemistry of Trace Elements (ICOBTE) and the International Karstological School.
Future Work: Expanding phytoremediation species diversity, optimizing mycorrhizal inoculation techniques, and developing non-destructive conservation methods for cave ecosystems.
