Stéphane Natan, Assistant Professor of French at Rider University’s Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, specializes in seventeenth-century French literature and rhetoric. Educated in France, he holds multiple degrees in French, Classics, Philosophy, and Armenian, with a PhD from University Jean Moulin Lyon 3 (2003) focused on Pascal’s rhetoric.
Research Interests: His work centers on Pascal’s Pensées, examining its evolution from apologetic project to poetic text. He explores rhetorical strategies, textual ambiguity, and the interplay between philosophy and literature in early modern French works. Publications include a book and peer-reviewed articles analyzing Pascal’s linguistic choices and structural innovations.

- Chancellor’s Outstanding Teaching Award (2005) at the University of Tennessee
