Stéphane Gouin

Stéphane Gouin is a Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences at The Agro Institute Rennes-Angers with over three decades of academic experience since 1988. His institutional affiliations include the UMR SMART research unit (Agricultural structures and markets, resources and territories), and he serves as president of the Valorial marketing committee within the Agri-Food Competitiveness Cluster - Food of Tomorrow.

His research focuses on critical areas in agri-food economics and marketing:

• Business strategies in the food industry
• Mass distribution systems and retail marketing
• Consumer eating habits and purchasing behavior
• Contractual relations between companies and distributors
• Seafood product marketing and traceability

Gouin leads significant research initiatives including European programs like 'Interreg' analyzing artisanal salt markets and 'Léonardo da Vinci' focusing on seafood traceability. His national program 'Pôle mer Bretagne' addresses the balance between seafood consumption and sustainable fisheries management.

As an educator, he directs marketing training for the MPC (Marketing, Production Coordination) master's degree and has overseen the DRACI (Development in Industrialized Culinary Arts) professional degree since 2000. His teaching spans consumer behavior analysis, distribution-merchandising, international marketing, and seafood marketing, where he has pioneered the concept of 'situational marketing' that has influenced food industry innovation since 1996.

He extends his expertise beyond his primary institution through regular teaching at Rennes 2 University and Audencia Business School in Nantes since 1991, while also providing advisory services to agri-food SMEs and producer groups.
