Dr. Stéphane Berneau is a Lecturer in Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), affiliated with the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. He joined UCLan in 2020 and specializes in reproductive biology, focusing on molecular mechanisms of embryo-endometrial adhesion using in-vitro models. His research also explores reproductive comparative anatomy, xenobiotics' impact on gametogenesis, and lifestyle effects on sperm parameters.
Dr. Berneau teaches biological and physiological topics for BSc and MSc/MRes programs at UCLan. He holds a Fellowship from the Higher Education Academy, recognizing his contributions to teaching excellence. His research interests span implantation biology, embryology, and reproductive health, with a strong emphasis on in-vitro models to study early developmental stages.
His articles (2013–2024) investigate embryo-uterine interactions, sperm biology, and molecular signaling pathways. Key themes include O-GlcNAcylation, hyaluronate-mediated adhesion, and vitamin D’s role in trophoblast migration. Recent work prioritizes glucose’s role in endometrial receptivity and osmotic stress effects on embryo invasion.
Dr. Berneau actively collaborates on studies like longitudinal sperm parameter analysis and the characterization of osteopontin in implantation. His work bridges basic science with clinical applications in reproductive medicine.
