Dr. Peter Ruane is a Lecturer in Maternal and Fetal Health at the University of Manchester's Division of Developmental Biology & Medicine (L5). He holds an Associate Editor position at Human Reproduction (ESHRE) and leads research on embryo-endometrial interactions during human implantation. His work integrates cell biology, microscopy, and omics data to study implantation defects linked to infertility and pregnancy complications.
Education: PhD in Cell Biology (University of Leeds, 2011) and BSc (1st Class Honors) in Cell Biology with Industrial Experience (University of Manchester, 2006). He began a Fellowship at the Maternal and Fetal Research Centre in 2018.
Research focuses on in vitro models of implantation/placentation, mouse models for developmental programming, and systems biology approaches. Key contributions include studies on hyaluronate effects in embryo attachment and glucose's role in endometrial receptivity.
He collaborates on projects like the Maternal & Fetal Health Research Centre (2018–2035) and the RESPIRE study (2021–2026). His work aligns with UN SDGs related to health and wellbeing (SDG 3).
