Stylianos Sygletos is a Professor at the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AiPT), part of Aston University's College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. His primary roles include academic leadership in photonics research and postgraduate teaching. He holds a PhD in Optical Communications from the National Technical University of Athens. His research focuses on Machine Learning applications in Optical Communications, Digital Signal Processing, and Nonlinear Fibre Optics. Notable contributions include advancements in Volterra models for nonlinearity equalization, FOPA systems, and kernel-based distortion compensation techniques.
Key research trends include the development of adaptive signal processing methods for high-capacity optical transmission systems. His work emphasizes real-time compensation of phase and amplitude distortions in parametrically amplified links, alongside innovations in photonic reservoir computing for QAM signal equalization. Recent studies address challenges in scaling transceiver bit rates to 1.6 Tbps and beyond, leveraging both digital and optical mitigation strategies.
Prof. Sygletos is the MSc Programme Director for Smart Telecom and Sensing Networks (SMARTNET) and Photonic Integrated Circuits, Sensors and Networks (PIXNET). His academic journey includes roles from PostDoc Researcher at Tyndall National Institute to Senior Research Fellow at Aston University before his current position. He has supervised multiple research projects, contributing to 175+ research outputs including datasets on advanced optical transmission techniques.
