Stuart Middleton is an Associate Professor in History and Literature at the University of Warwick's Faculty of Arts. He specializes in political and intellectual cultures of Britain, Western Europe, and America since the 19th century. His current research focuses on the paradox of democracy among progressive intellectuals post-1918 and the historiography of the welfare state. He co-convenes the English and History degree program, teaching core modules like EN126 History and Textuality and EN2J9 Writing History.

His research explores themes such as democratic values, affluence politics, and the conceptualization of 'the Establishment.' Recent publications include The Paradox of Democracy (under contract) and articles in Historical Journal and Journal of British Studies. He holds prestigious fellowships including the Laurance S. Rockefeller Visiting Faculty Fellowship (Princeton) and a Fulbright Scholarship (NYU).
