Stuart Donachie

Stuart Donachie is a Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, actively teaching SEA-PHAGES program courses since 2019 through scheduled 2025 sections. He serves as primary instructor for phage discovery and genomics labs, collaborating with faculty including Floyd Reed, Alex Culley, and Megan Porter.

His research focuses on microbiology with specialization in phage genomics, evolutionary science, and bacterial genetics, engaging undergraduates in hands-on *Arthrobacter globiformis*-based phage isolation and bioinformatics analysis through both in situ and in silico methodologies.

Course instruction spans 2.8-5.5 weekly lab hours across 12-18 student cohorts (primarily freshmen), with documented sections in Fall 2019, Spring 2019, Fall 2023, and upcoming Fall 2025 offerings. He participates in SEA-PHAGES community events including workshops and symposia.
