Dr. Stuart A. Long is the John and Rebecca Moores Professor and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Research and the Honors College at the University of Houston. He holds a BA and MEE in Electrical Engineering from Rice University and a PhD in Applied Physics from Harvard University. His research focuses on applied electromagnetics, antenna design (including dielectric resonator, printed-circuit, and millimeter-wave antennas), and engineering education/outreach initiatives aimed at improving student retention and recruitment.
His professional recognition includes IEEE Life Fellowship (1991), IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Distinguished Lecturer (1992-1994), and the 2018 Chen-To Tai Distinguished Educator Award. His work bridges fundamental antenna theory and practical medical safety applications, such as MRI RF-induced heating analysis for implantable devices.
Notable contributions include advancements in leaky-wave antenna design, dielectric resonator antenna optimization, and collaborative educational programs. His research has been published extensively in IEEE Transactions and other peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on both technical innovation and pedagogical strategies for diverse student populations.
