استاد · Hypothalamic regulation of energy balance
Albert Einstein College of Medicineمعرفی
Dr. Streamson C. Chua, Jr. is a Professor in both the Department of Medicine (Endocrinology) and the Dominick P. Purpura Department of Neuroscience at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. His research focuses on genetic contributions to obesity, diabetes, and their complications, particularly the role of leptin-responsive neurons in energy balance and reproduction. He previously worked at Rockefeller University and Columbia University before joining Einstein in 2005.
Education: B.A. from Johns Hopkins University, M.D.-Ph.D. from Columbia University, postdoctoral fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at New York Hospital, and further training to clone the 11 beta hydroxylase gene.
- Research Interests:
- Hypothalamic regulation of feeding and metabolism
- Leptin biology and obesity models
- FGF signaling in glucose control
- Diabetic complications (beta-cell loss, nephropathy)
Publications highlight investigations into hypothalamic signaling pathways, bile acid-hypothalamus interactions, and genetic determinants of metabolic diseases. Current work explores preclinical targets for obesity and diabetes through molecular mechanisms involving FGF19, TRPV1 receptors, and cholinergic circuits.
