معرفی
Stewart McLachlin is an Assistant Professor at the University of Waterloo, affiliated with the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering within the Faculty of Engineering. He leads the Orthopaedic Mechatronics Laboratory, focusing on biomechanics, orthopaedic surgery, implant design, and computational modeling. His research emphasizes improving surgical techniques and medical devices through biomechanical analysis and advanced technologies.
Educations:
- 2013: Doctorate in Mechanical & Materials Engineering, University of Western Ontario, Canada.
- 2008: Master of Engineering Science in Mechanical & Materials Engineering, University of Western Ontario, Canada.
- 2006: Bachelor of Engineering Science in Mechanical & Materials Engineering, University of Western Ontario, Canada.
His research interests include biomechanical testing of orthopaedic implants, computational modeling for surgical planning, and innovations in computer-assisted surgery. McLachlin has received notable awards, including the 2017 International Society for Computer-Aided Surgery Award and the 2018 Best Orthopaedic Surgical Resident Paper Presentation.
Teaching: He has taught courses such as BME 488 (Biomechanics), BME 552 (Computational Biomechanics), and ME 380 (Mechanical Engineering Design Workshop) in recent years. His teaching spans biomechanics, engineering design, and foundational mechanical engineering principles.
Labs & Teams: The Orthopaedic Mechatronics Laboratory under his direction explores cutting-edge technologies like 3D X-ray microscopy and virtual reality tools for surgical training. He collaborates on projects such as predictive spine surgery tools and smartwatch-based physiotherapy adherence tracking.
