Steven Zvi Josefowicz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University, where he has been affiliated since 2022. His research integrates immunology, epigenetics, and hematopoiesis, with a focus on reprogramming immune responses for therapeutic applications in cancer and infectious diseases.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Washington (2010)
- B.A., University of California, Berkeley (2002)
Research Focus: Dr. Josefowicz investigates epigenetic mechanisms governing immune cell function, hematopoietic stem cell behavior, and immune memory. His work spans:
- Microbial and cancer immunotherapy development
- SARS-CoV-2/influenza immune responses
- Transcriptional regulation in inflammation and hematopoiesis
- Myeloid cell reprogramming in tumor microenvironments
Grant Leadership: He directs multiple NIH-funded projects as Principal Investigator, including:
- "Histone Variant H3.3 as a Transcription Rheostat in the Immune System" (NIAID, 2025–2030)
- "Central Innate Immune Memory in BCG-Induced Tumor Immunity" (ASH, 2025–2026)
- "Epigenetic Regulation of Immunity" (Burroughs Wellcome Fund, 2022–2027)
External Engagements: Ownership and consulting for Epistemyx Inc.
