Steven Woltering is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at Texas A&M University, jointly appointed with the Department of Psychology and the TAMIN Institute. He founded and directs the Neurobiological Lab for Learning and Development (NLD Lab), which focuses on integrating biometric technologies into social and health sciences research. His work emphasizes understanding self-regulation mechanisms—the ability to control attention and emotions across the lifespan—and applying this knowledge to education and clinical interventions.
Dr. Woltering’s research addresses questions such as why self-regulation varies among individuals, how it develops, and whether it can be trained. His studies examine typical and atypical populations, including those with ADHD, anxiety, and addictive behaviors. Methodologies include EEG, neuroimaging, meta-analyses, and physiological measures. He has published extensively on ADHD neurobiology, working memory training efficacy, and biometric applications in education.
He teaches courses in educational neuroscience, learning theory, and directed studies. His funded projects include investigations into literacy improvement via biometric technology, human-animal interaction effects on cognition, and interdisciplinary neuroscience training. Dr. Woltering has mentored multiple doctoral students and received awards for his innovative contributions, including the 2017 CEHD Dean’s Outstanding New Faculty Award and a 2016 Best Paper Award.
