Steven Williams is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Pharmacy at the University of Manchester. He is also a Consultant Pharmacist in Medicine & Medication Safety at the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust since 2003. His primary role involves leading the Medication Safety arm of the Trust’s Patient Safety Programme, ensuring compliance with national medication safety directives and implementing solutions to improve patient care. Williams holds an MPhil from the Welsh School of Pharmacy (1991) and has dedicated his career to advancing patient safety through pharmacy expertise.
His research focuses on optimizing pharmaceutical care practices, medication error prevention, and improving hospital pharmacy service delivery. Notable contributions include developing tools like the Adult Complexity Tool for Pharmaceutical Care (ACTPC) and evaluating medication safety interventions post-hospital discharge. Williams also advocates for pharmacists’ expanded roles in clinical decision-making and non-medical prescribing.
