Steven Schatz

Steven Schatz serves as a Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in Arbitration and Mediation, Civil Procedure and Litigation, Corporate Finance, and Securities Regulation. He is a recently retired securities litigator with 40 years of experience as a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

Mr. Schatz clerked for the Hon. Walter Mansfield of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where he prosecuted high-profile securities fraud cases. At Wilson Sonsini, he served as lead counsel in over 175 securities and corporate governance class actions, argued 35+ times in federal circuit courts and state supreme courts, and led landmark cases including HP’s acquisition of Compaq and the first successful defense against an SEC Regulation FD enforcement action. Recognized for his expertise, he has testified before Congress on securities litigation reform and currently serves as a mediator/arbitrator with FedArb.
