Dr Steven Sam is a Lecturer in Computer Science at Brunel University London, affiliated with the College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences. He leads the Computer Science for Social Good research group and the African Regional Working Group, focusing on computing for social good (AI4SG), data ethics, responsible AI, and sustainable human-computer interaction (HCI4D).
- PhD from University of Queensland (2016) with Dean’s Award for Outstanding HDR Thesis
- Co-led projects in infant monitoring systems, indigenous knowledge platforms, and violence prevention technologies
- Specializes in participatory design methodologies and technology impact assessment
His research bridges digital systems with sustainable development goals, particularly through ethical AI, mobile technology in plural health systems, and e-governance. Collaborations span academic institutions, governments, and NGOs across Africa. Recent publications emphasize participatory frameworks for democracy, healthcare wearables, and user-centered approaches to gender-based violence.
