Steven Sam

Steven Sam is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California San Diego. His academic journey began with a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012, and he has since established himself as a leading researcher at the intersection of multiple mathematical disciplines.

Sam's research spans algebra, combinatorics, algebraic combinatorics, commutative algebra, representation theory, and algebraic geometry. His work focuses particularly on representation stability and the theory of twisted commutative algebras. An underlying theme of his research involves the interface of combinatorics, representation theory, and algebraic geometry, with a special emphasis on commutative algebra. His contributions include solving the Lannes-Schwartz artinian conjecture and substantial work on finiteness properties of sequences of representations.
