Steven R. Howell, PhD, is a Professor of Psychology at Keystone College, located within the Turock School of Arts and Sciences' Social and Behavioral Sciences department. He holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Modelling from McMaster University (2004) and an Honors BA in Psychology/Sociology from York University (1998). His research focuses on cognitive psychology, psycholinguistics, and connectionist modelling, particularly exploring neural representations of semantics, language acquisition, and high-dimensional statistical analysis.
His work emphasizes computational methods like neural network simulations (e.g., SRNEngine) and has addressed topics such as sensorimotor influences on language learning, grammatical development from lexical cues, and evolutionary psychology. Notably, his 2005 article on grounded language acquisition ranked 11th in ScienceDirect's Arts and Humanities downloads for late 2005.
Dr. Howell has held roles including Coordinator of General Education Assessment (2012–2013) and Curriculum Coordinator for the Psychology Major at Keystone College.
