Steven Prohira is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Kansas. He serves as Principal Investigator (PI) of the Radar Echo Telescope (RET) project and has been a MacArthur Fellow (2022). His academic journey includes postdoctoral work at the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP) at The Ohio State University (2018–2022) and a President's Postdoctoral Scholar role there from 2019–2021.

Prohira's research focuses on experimental astroparticle physics, particularly neutrino physics and radio detection methods. He has pioneered radar-based techniques to detect ultra-high-energy neutrinos by validating coherent radio scattering from particle showers in dense media, such as ice. His work spans both field deployments (e.g., Greenland, Antarctica) and laboratory experiments (e.g., SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory).
His publications center on radar echo detection, cosmic ray studies, and radio frequency scattering analysis. Key collaborations include the Beam forming Elevated Array for COsmic Neutrinos (BEACON), the Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA), and leadership in the Testbeam Experiment 576 (T576) at SLAC.

Prohira's technical expertise includes firmware development (Verilog, VHDL), programming (C/C++, Python, Arduino), and hardware design (circuits, machining). He has led fieldwork for the RET-CR project in Greenland and contributed to ANITA recovery missions in Antarctica.
