Dr. Steven Mills is a Professor of Spanish at Buena Vista University (BVU), serving since 2011. He holds a B.A. and M.A. in Spanish from Brigham Young University (2005, 2007) and a Ph.D. in Spanish literature from Purdue University (2011).
His research focuses on Peninsular literature from the early 19th century to modern times, examining works by José de Espronceda, Miguel de Unamuno, Antonio Machado, and Jean-Paul Sartre, with a particular emphasis on intersections between literature and cognitive science.
- Service Roles: Served as Chair of the Faculty Administration Committee and former Chair of the Faculty Welfare Committee. Currently chairs the Faculty Senate.
- Advising: Leads Sigma Delta Pi (Spanish honor society) and Alpha Chi (interdisciplinary honor society).
- Experiential Learning: Oversees May Term travel courses, coordinates study abroad programs, and chairs the McCorkle Committee. Founded a Spanish/Pre-Med medical service trip to Peru in collaboration with Iowa physicians.
Teaching: Offers courses on advanced grammar, Peninsular literature surveys, Spanish culture, and special topics in cognitive approaches to literature.
